Spinach is one of the common vegetables in our daily life. In addition to its delicious taste, spinach is also very nutritious, which is specifically suitable for the children and patients. Spinach contains a large amount of carotene, and is also the best source of vitamin B6, folic acid, iron and potassium. In addition, the content of riboflavin, vitamin C, calcium and magnesium contained in spinach are 10% more than the recommended daily intake.

All these nutrients contained in spinach have great medical value to human body. For example, carotene can prevent many kinds of cancers and heart disease. Folic acid can help prevent the birth defects of the fetus. Many of the foetal deformities are caused by the abnormal development of the tubular tissue of the nerves and brains formed at the early pregnant period. And this is due to the lack of folic acid, which is necessary for the division and maturation of the cells. Some studies point out that, if one takes in 4 mg of folic acid every day, it can prevent the occurrence of these congenital diseases. And eating spinach can provide a large number of folic acid to the body.

What's more, the potassium contained in spinach may help maintain the electrolyte balance in the cells, and keep the normal function of the heart and blood pressure. Vitamin B6 and vitamin C are beneficial to the immune system. Iron may help prevent iron deficiency anemia. And calcium and magnesium can strengthen the bones. Moreover, the enzyme contained in spinach plays an important role on the secreting function of the stomach and pancreas. As a result, people who suffer from anemia, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory and lung diseases, hypertension and diabetes can eat more spinach, which is very beneficial to their health.

In addition, spinach is rich in antioxidants, which can be used to prevent the recession of the heart function. These antioxidants are extremely important to maintain human health. Because there is a variety of radiation and chemical substances in the environment in which people live. These radiation and chemical substances will make human body produce a lot of free radicals, which can kill human cells, thus leading to memory loss or pathological changes of the heart and other vital organs of human body. While the abundant antioxidants contained in spinach can absorb the harmful free radicals, thus making human body stay healthy.

However, what you should pay special attention to is that, although spinach has a lot of benefits to human body, it is not suitable for the patients who suffer from kidney stone or lithangiuria, because the oxalic acid contained in spinach is likely to aggravate the condition of the disease.
